Where are you from? Someone inquired of me today My response was somewhat elusive I was uncertain what to say
Why is it that people ask This very common question It must be to categorize me With stereotypes of a nation.
To reply was not as simple As at first it might appear For a growing number of us The answer is not very clear
Could citizenship be what they seek Though it does not express who I am? Or is it more likely my ethnicity From whence my ancestors came?
Birthplace is the answer most often sought Though it does not represent me in the least My personal identity IS what matters Who I am is me
Nartionality, birthplace, ethnicity, culture Leave them all behind Find out who I am as a person Without the need to categorize
I am multicultural and global Different lands I do roam I am a Global Nomad The world is my home!!!

This is a very suitable poem for my kids who have been roaming in 3 continents in the past 8 years.
